ALL I NEED (1995~2001)

                                                               ALL I NEED (1995~2001)
                                                          Akito, Vocals
                                                          Mar, Guitar
                                                          Hayashi, Bass
                                                          Tamaki, Drums

One of the most beautiful bands of their time, ALL I NEED were basically one of the best bands that the first wave of softkei had to offer. Combining powerful, emotional bandwork with heartbreakingly sincere vocals from frontman Akito, the guys released six singles, one mini-album and three full length albums from 1997 up until their split in early 2001. Even though I only have one of their albums up here for now, I really do intend on getting some more of their stuff sometime in the near future. One of the best bands to listen to on those tough days, who, with the help of their strong sound, can help out even the most apathetic of souls. Truly amazing stuff.

crowm (2001~2004)

                                                                         crowm (2001~2004)
                                                          Tetsuya (哲也)
                                                          Daisuke (乃輔)
                                                          Tock, Bass
                                                          Assar, Drums

Although they were only around for about three years and released one album, crowm had an interesting history. Apparently getting quite the push from popular visual kei magazines like SHOXX, the bassist of crowm, Tock, would go on to join the goth-kei band MONOAURAL CURVE, which is pretty much the polar opposite of this band. Everything else you need to know about them is captured right in that photo. Seriously. That photo explains everything about them. What you see is what you will get.

New Cinema Tokage (New Cinema 蜥蜴) were one of those bands that had some visual aesthetics, but were never embraced by that crowd. Instead, the boys were semi-successful crossover stars when their label, Giza Studio, before being eclipsed with the massive surprise success of GARNET CROW in late 2000. They were actually the first signees to Giza when it was known as Garage Indies Zapping Association in the fall of 1998. New Cinema Tokage released 14 singles, two full length albums and one mini-album in their five-year run.

UILUS (1996~2005)

                             Fujii (風児), Drums

Alriiiiight! The first band up on this blog is a group of energetic lads named UILUS. The guys had a period of extreme popularity in the visual kei underground that spanned from 1998 until late 2002. And when 2002 ended, that big success came crashing down in a big way, probably because the guys removed the little bit of visual aesthetic they had at that point. UILUS, who presumably got their name from the Japanese pronunciation of “virus”, were around for longer than most of the bands you’ll see on this blog, and as a result, released a good amount of material.
